Glass is then used to make several important upgrades in the game to help progress the story. Here’s a more detailed breakdown of what you need to make glass in Spiritfarer, as well as its many in-game uses.
What You Need (Prerequisites)
As mentioned above, you can’t just pick up glass from the various in-game locations in Spiritfarer. Instead, you need to make it yourself, and it requires a bit of work. Luckily for you, there are only two things you need to get started. These are:
Empty bottle Foundry
The first item is easy enough, as empty bottles are found scattered all across the map in Spiritfarer. Simply open your map in Stella’s cabin and set sail for one of the many “cargo crates” found on the map. Aside from bottles, these crates also contain other items like seeds, wood, or ores, to name a few. Occasionally, you will also come across these floating crates while sailing. You will know because the game will prompt you with a crate icon and a slight rumbling in the ship. Drop down and either press the crates or press down onto the shining parts of the water to collect the items. More often than not, you’ll find an empty bottle. Francis the Wandering Merchant also sells empty bottles for 20 glims each if you want a quicker process. Just look for him on the map or wait to come across his shop while sailing. Once you obtain the empty bottles, the next step is to build a Foundry. Note: These empty bottles are the same ones that you use in the “Lightning in a Bottle” mini-game.
Building the Foundry
Depending on where you are in the game, chances are, you may already have a Foundry in your boat. If not, then the first step is to visit Albert’s shipyard and buy the first blueprint station upgrade Hobbyist, here’s what you need: Acquiring the hobbyist blueprint upgrade unlocks three new buildings: the Sawmill, the Loom, and of course, the Foundry. Then, simply head back home to your ship and visit your blueprint table atop Stella’s cabin to build the Foundry. This requires:
20 coals 20 oak planks
Gather the materials, and find a suitable spot for your Foundry on the ship. You can also build multiple Foundries if you wish, although the cost increases after the first one. Once built, you can now start the smelting minigame to create glass. Note: Depending on where you are in the story, Astrid will first introduce you to the Foundry via the “Bars of Gold” request, although you can build it before then. She will also teach you how the smelting process works.

While the Foundry minigame is relatively easy, it can be a bit confusing if it’s your first time, especially if Astrid hasn’t taught you yet. In any case, here are the steps:
