So how do you throw a high pass in Madden 22? Simply hold LB/L1 and press the button of the receiver you want to throw to. Your quarterback will throw the ball up high, where only your receiver will be able to jump up and grab it. At least theoretically…
Throwing a high pass will certainly get the ball over most defensive linemen, even if they’ve got their hands up swatting at the ball. But for a receiver to win a high pass at higher skill levels, they must be tall and, most importantly, be in a mismatch against the defender. Certain TEs, like Travis Kelce (KC) and Kyle Pitts (ATL), are great options because of their size, physicality, and athleticism.
Depending on how quickly you want the ball to get to your intended target, you can also throw high touch, lob, and bullet passes:
High bullet pass: Hold LB/L1 and hold the receiver button High touch pass: Hold LB/L1 and press the receiver button High lob pass: Hold LB/L1 and tap the receiver button
The game will tell you what type of pass you’ve thrown by displaying text at the bottom of the screen.
You can throw high passes anywhere on the field, though outside of taking advantage of mismatches, they’re great for deep posts and verts, especially a hail mary into the endzone. With a lot of guys fighting for the ball, throw it up and let your tallest WR/TE go up and pull it down for the score. A high pass is also good for getting the ball to a deeper receiver on crossing routes.
