There are a few wrinkles, though. Getting to Castle takes a little time, and finding how to complete the mission isn’t obvious. That’s where this guide comes in.
We’ll discuss where you can find the Castle settlement, how to unlock its cutscenes, and explain what you can do with the area once it’s unlocked.
How to Find and Unlock the Castle Settlement
If you’re having trouble finding the Castle Settlement, it’s located in the East Mall in the lower left-hand corner of the map. See below for an image. Castle is surrounded by green light in the center of my screen.

There’s a control point just to the settlement’s south if you have to leave and come back before you unlock easier fast travel.
Unlocking Castle
Note: Be sure you’ve reached Level 15 or so and cleared the American History Museum and Air & Space Museum missions before attempting the Castle Settlement mission. There was a bug that halted progression and, while it was addressed with a patch, better to be safe than sorry.
Once you’ve made it to the settlement, a cutscene plays, and you’ll be tasked with finding Agent Kelso, the Agent you’ve partnered with on previous missions. Unfortunately, no mission marker pops up to guide you to her, forcing a little exploration on your part.
Begin by heading to the front of the church and looking to its left.
If you walk near the bushes behind the tree, you’ll notice a path leading to a hatch. It looks something like this.
That hatch is your destination. Once you’re close enough, you should receive a button prompt for you to press “X”, “Square”, or whatever your “Use” binding is on PC. Hold the button down until the circle fills, and you’ll trigger the second Castle settlement cutscene, unlocking it for fast travel and bringing Kelso into your team for a while.
You Cannot Upgrade Castle
Due to the unfortunate events that befell the Castle settlement, it has no NPCs to speak of and no way to upgrade any part of it. It is a story location only and a fast travel point only.
